Hello. My name is Joe. Yes, just Joe. Not very flashy by today’s standards but fairly easy to remember for most people.
I’ve spent my entire working career in the food industry working on just about every category of food sold:
- spices and seasonings, boxed meals
- refrigerated and frozen meals,
- sauces,
- canned and pouched items
- hot filled and cold filled, products
- shelf stable and not so shelf stable
- meats, poultry, cheeses and just about everything in between
In some cases I worked on developing original processes to the industry and, in others, adapting existing processes to new applications.
I’ve worked hands on, as well as Manage/Sr. Director, in basic research, product and process development, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and food safety.
Along the way I’ve acquired enough University degrees to rival a Russian General displaying his medals. But the greatest source of knowledge came from actually working with the folks who were in the field and on the line making our food.
Not Everyone is Interested in sharing actual facts
When I finally decided to take time for myself post-active career, I was surprised to find that consumers had a serious lack of knowledge as to how their food is actually prepared and why.
Sure there are a lot of sites on the internet that offer information. But most have an agenda and a pre-drawn opinion that they are pushing; not just straight information and truth.
Experience Counts
This is a big reason why someone with a lifetime of practical experience can share more valid facts than anyone who portrays themselves as an expert by going to the University of Internet Search.
This is why I started this site. It will provide straight answers to questions about our foods; how they are made, why they are made as they are, and why the ingredients used in them are there. It’s my intention to maintain a straight non-biased information source.
Together we will find answers we understand and agree with. But sometimes we will find answers we will disagree with. This is the Ying and Yang of life. But I will always try to maintain a non-partisan approach.
So join me in peeling back the layers of the onion to discover and demystify the foods we eat.
